Siwasuarana is a Tupi word. It means cougar.
Using a word with an etymology originating with the First People of North and South America, evokes a different connotation and denotation than one that derives from Latin. Note that cougars frequently appear in Sauer's work as a motif. They appear in his recently published poem, Sandpaint - found here at the online magazine "Kritya", and they are most prominently featured in his novel, One Hunter and One Cougar.
