Epistemology is the study of knowledge with a contemporary focus on the limits of human knowledge. The online Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy provides a concise definition of the word, epistemology, as well as further information about Rene Descartes, who used deductive reasoning to irrefutably establish the truism, "Cogito ergo sum", which translates into English as "I think therefore I am".
